"One day it occurred to me that I would not have any more children. My womb has been a living space for eight babies. Six of them live on this earth today.
And I remember taking Mommy/baby pictures with my first baby 24 years ago. I very much wanted a Madonna picture Because I thought it replicated the most sincere and graceful attributes of being a mother.
Today, I stare at those studio pictures, in awe at the beginning of my Motherhood journey.
With my last baby being nine years old, I grieved that the time had passed. I did not even think to get baby mama pictures with her when she was a baby. I was sad that I missed that moment.
When I reached out to Christina, she was doing a special for Mothers, and I shared how I wanted some pictures with my nine-year-old. I worried that we couldn’t get the pictures where I’m holding or cradling my child. But I wanted that soft, beautiful mother-child moment memorialized once again. Now after 24 years of being a mom and doing this for the last time.
I had no idea what the pictures would look like, but Christina was so gentle and professional. We were treated like royalty in her studio. She worked with us, dressed us, respected what I was trying to do and put her heart and soul into creating the most beautiful moments that I will treasure forever.
I have changed over the years. Not just the wrinkles on my face, or the color of my hair now with gray creeping in. But inside as a woman, as a mother – I’ve learned so much. Mostly, I’ve been humbled. But overall, being a mom has changed my life for the better. I’m a better person because I have mothered children. They have changed my life and I’d like to think I maybe changed theirs a little bit. I am so amazingly grateful to God, who has gifted Christina Baltazar with such invaluable gifts, creativity, and depth, patience, and the ability to look beyond the photo, and into the hearts and souls of the people who she photographs. She captures that moment and memorializes it in the work that she does. It’s so much more than a photo. It’s customized ART!
The pictures with my last baby at nine years old- turned out more beautiful than I could ever have imagined. Certainly, a beautiful tribute to my years as a mother.
Now I know, it’s never too late to take the time to memorialize your Motherhood with someone who appreciates the vocation and has the heart to help you get the moment you deserve.
