Pregnancy has a way of feeling long and fast at the same time.
One moment you’re just finding out, and the next you’re wondering where the time went and how your baby is already almost here.
If you’ve been thinking about maternity photos, you might be asking yourself when the right time actually is.
The truth is, timing matters more than most people realize.
The Best Time for Maternity Photos

The ideal time for maternity photos is between 28 and 34 weeks pregnant.
This is the window where everything tends to come together beautifully.
Your baby bump is full and clearly defined. Your body still feels relatively comfortable. You can move, pose, and enjoy the experience without feeling rushed or exhausted.
It’s that in-between moment where you still feel like yourself, but your body is visibly carrying new life.
Why Timing Matters More Than You Think
There is a big difference between photographing at 24 weeks and at 32 weeks.
Earlier in pregnancy, your bump may not be as pronounced in photos. Later in pregnancy, especially after 34–35 weeks, many moms start to feel more physically uncomfortable.
Swelling, fatigue, and limited mobility can make the experience harder than it needs to be.
This is why that 28 to 34-week window works so well. It gives you the best balance of:
- A beautifully rounded bump
- Comfort during posing
- Energy to enjoy the session
What If You’re Earlier or Later Than That Window?
If you’re earlier than 28 weeks, we can absolutely plan ahead and secure your date now.
If you’re already past 34 weeks, don’t panic.
I have photographed many moms later in pregnancy, and we can still create something beautiful. We simply adjust the session to fit where your body is and how you’re feeling.
The most important thing is not missing the opportunity altogether.

When You Should Actually Book Your Session
Most clients book their maternity session when they are around 20–28 weeks pregnant.
This gives us time to:
Plan your session
Style your wardrobe
Choose your backdrop or location
Reserve your spot before the calendar fills
Waiting too long can limit availability, especially if you’re hoping for a specific look or timeframe.

You Deserve to Be in These Photos
A lot of moms hesitate.
You might not feel like yourself. You might be waiting to feel more ready. You might be telling yourself you’ll do it next time.
But this season matters.
Your baby will never know you any other way than as their mother. One day, these images will show them where their story began.
Not perfect. Not posed for anyone else. Just you, carrying them.
